This freeware package consists of numerous AppleScript scripts, as released in October 1997. Although originally developed by the author whilst learning about scripting, they can be used as a basis for creating new scripts or to improve your understanding of AppleScript.
System Requirements
To use these scripts you must have a Mac with AppleScript installed. A scriptable Finder is required, either by means of the Finder Scripting extension or as built into recent versions of the Finder. To check this you can run Script Editor, select Open Dictionary and try to select the Finder in the dialog. If you can open it you should see a long list of commands. If you can’t open it or can’t see any commands you will need to update your system software.
Installation
To use these scripts you must first copy the appropriate scripting additions into the Scripting Additions folder. In Mac OS 7.x this is located within the Extensions folder but in OS 8.x it can be found loose within the System Folder.
Running the Scripts
Unless you modify the scripts and save them as applets you’ll need to use OSA Menu or OtherMenu to launch them. Full documentation is provided within the package.
Compatibility with OS 8.5
Although these scripts have only been tested with Mac OS 7.6.1 they should also work with OS 8.1. Unfortunately there may be some complications with OS 8.5, particularly with instructions that are not enclosed within tell/end tell commands or that use older scripting extensions. Such extensions may operate even more slowly with the new Power-PC native form of AppleScript. Please note that OS 8.5 includes the clipboard instruction formerly provided by the scripting addition known as Jon’s Commands.
